Epsilon Chapter Lavender Luncheon

EPSILON CHAPTER HOSTS LAVENDER LUNCHEON IN PHILADELPHIA

Epsilon Chapter members Ameenah Muhammad (President), Hajah Komaro-Donzo (Treasurer), and Marsha Komara (Secretary) hosted the chapter's Lavender Luncheon as part of probationary period activities for four new prospective sorors. The traditional event was held on December 26, 2009, at the Renaissance Hotel in Philadelphia. The Lavender Luncheon is also known as the Peace Luncheon.

The event is designed to bring together sorors, Gamma Lilies (prospective members involved in the probationary process), members of their families, and the community. All activities for the luncheon are coordinated and conducted by the Gamma Lilies as a community service activity.

During the luncheon, the Lilies tell why they want to become members of Gamma Gamma Chi Sorority, Inc., and family members are given the opportunity to meet members of the sorority and each other. Family members also get a clearer understanding of what membership in the sorority is all about.

The event features a keynote speaker who is selected by the chapter. The sorority's President and Executive Director, Dr. Althia F. Ali, provided this year's keynote speech. She spoke about the fact that the sorority is approaching its fifth year and praised the work done by the three Epsilon Chapter members in advancing the work and mission of the sorority in the Philadelphia metro area.

A surprise feature of this year's Lavender Luncheon was the announcement that the Gamma Lilies would transition from being Gamma Lilies to Gamma Ladies at the conclusion of the event.
