Q #1: How do I become a member of Gamma Gamma Chi?A: Gamma Gamma Chi is committed to high academic standards for membership, and expects each of its members currently enrolled at colleges and universities to exemplify that commitment through classroom attendance and performance. The philosophy for high academic achievement was established by our founders. For membership in the sorority, women must have completed a college degree or be pursuing work leading to at least a baccalaureate degree. Students are eligible for membership after they have completed two consecutive semesters at an accredited college or university. A cumulative minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 grading scale or a 1.5 on a 3.0 grading scale is required for acceptance as an incoming member. Other requirements are explained in detail during the membership intake process. All chapters of Gamma Gamma Chi Sorority host a meeting known as the Gold Presentation, where prospective sorors receive information about the sorority and how to become a member. The frequency of the Gold Presentation is hosted at the discretion of the local chapter. Women may express interest in becoming a member online or through the mail. If we find that our initial review requirements are met, we extend an invitation to attend a Gold Presentation. All persons interested in becoming a member of Gamma Gamma Chi must attend this official membership interest activity.Q #2: I graduated from college a number of years ago; can I still become a member?A: Yes. To be considered, we need to receive a copy of the transcript or diploma showing the degree was awarded. Also we will need to re
ceive other required documentation that will be provided.Q #3: If I meet all requirements specified at the Gold Presentation do I automatically become a member of Gamma Gamma Chi?A: Membership is granted after careful review and is not automatic. Our goal is to select women who not only meet the basic requirements, but also can uphold the standards of Gamma Gamma Chi as well as commit to participating in our programs and activities. Gammas are interested in establishing and continuing the tradition of excellence in all aspects. Therefore, we invite all women to apply who exhibit excellent personal and professional character and high moral standards, and who have a commitment to giving back in service to the community. The final determinant in whether you are selected for membership is a combination of factors that strengthen you and the organization. The intake process gives us the opportunity to evaluate the match between you and the sororityQ #4: Is there an age limit to join?A: Gamma Gamma Chi does not have an age limit for membership.Q #5: How is Gamma Gamma Chi different from other sororities?
A: We are different from other sororities in the fact that we are a halal sisterhood whose practice is based on Islamic principles. This means that although we use Greek letters in name, we do not engage in doctrines that are traditionally associated with "Greek Life." We are Islamic based; therefore, we do not participate in any form of shirk or any other practices that conflict with Islamic principles. Our focus is to provide an alternative to traditional sororities for women that allows them to maintain and celebrate their
Islamic identity in rewarding and meaningful, and fun ways.Q #6: Do you participate in Rush?A: Not at the moment. However as we grow we envision increasing our visibility and giving dawah ( by participating in Rush on college and university campuses).Q #7: Do you participate in rituals?A: Yes. We adhere to activities that coincide with the Shariah (Islamic Law). We observe salat whose timing occurs during a meeting or an event, as well as other important Islamic observances such as Eid celebrations, fasting, Iftar, and Itikaf in the month of Ramadan. There is a special secret ceremony involved in becoming a member of Gamma Gamma Chi. Q #8: What are the benefits of joining Gamma Gamma Chi?A: The benefits are numerous. For college students we provide life skills like leadership development through holding offices, encouragement and assistance to foster scholastic achievement and stress the importance of higher education, opportunities to serve our communities through philanthropic events, and lasting lifelong friendships. Most importantly we serve as a support system for women in our community. Membership in Gamma Gamma Chi is especially beneficial to those who desire to continue to practice the Deen of Islam and striving in the way of Allah (SWT).Q #9: Does Gamma Gamma Chi have a "brother fraternity?"A: No. There are no known Islamic-based fraternities that would match our values. If such a fraternity emerges in the future we will examine whether to link with them in light of Islamic principles.
