Sorors Wakilat Kasumu and Rasheeda Salaam

ALPHA SORORS CONTINUE TO WORK TO BUILD CHAPTER

Alpha Chapter Sorors Wakilat Kasumu (above, left) and Rasheeda Salaam (above, right) are true Gamma Champions. Almost single handedly, they have maintained the chapter since it was established in 2006. They have participated in community events and recruited new members to build the fledgling chapter which serves the Atlanta metro area.

Even after she graduated from Spelman College and moved to Texas to begin her graduate studies, Soror Wakilat, who serves as the chapter's president, has maintained her membership in the chapter and worked closely with Soror Rasheeda who continues to live in the Atlanta metro area. Soror Rasheeda not only has held down the Atlanta homefront, but she has also co-coordinated GammaFest and served on the Board of Directors.

In reflecting on the work done by Sorors Wakilat and Rasheeda, President and Executive Director, Dr. Althia F. Ali said, "Gamma couldn't ask for more dedicated sorors. Both Wakilat and Rasheeda have weathered some very difficult times, and it is because of them that we continue to have a presence in Atlanta. The sorors were featured in a recent article that appeared in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and they represented the sorority in an excellent fashion. I plan to be in Atlanta later this month to continue to help build this chapter and to continue to do all that I can to ensure the future of this chapter not only for these two sorors, but also for future women who want to belong to our sorority."

Schedule of Gold Presentations

Most recently, these two dedicated sorors held a Gold Presentation (informational meeting) on May 2, with another slated for July 18 at 3:00PM. As with all Gold Presentations, pre-registration is required. Anyone interested in attending should contact chapter members for full details and to RSVP not later than July 12.
