Co-founders Imani Canty and Dr. Althia F. Ali began the first of several visits that they will make to all GGChi Chapters as part of National Headquarters' chapter development efforts. The two met with Beta Chapter on November 1 in Columbia, Maryland.

The meeting with began with dinner at the Melting Pot. Sorors enjoyed a relaxed evening while enjoying fondues, fun, and sisterhood. This was followed by a business meeting.

According to Dr. Ali, the purpose of the visits is to enable the National officers to meet face to face with all active sorors, to learn about the activities that the chapters are currently involved in as well as those that are planned for the coming months. Chapter members also are able to share any concerns that they have about policies and procedures. In turn these issues will be taken to the Board of Directors for review and action. The visits also give the members the opportunity to learn about the concerns and priorities of National Headquarters for the coming fiscal year.

In reflecting on the meeting, Imani Canty said, "As we are involved in the challenge of building the first Islamic-based sorority, we sometimes lose sight of the significance of what we're doing because we're so close to it. These meetings help us to emphasize to all our members that the work that we all are doing is very historical, very important, and very necessary. We are building an organization from the ground up, and we need courageous and dedicated sorors to help us do the work that we've begun."

The co-founders plan to complete their visits to all chapters by December 20, insha'Allah.
