GGChi is well on the way to realizing its vision of having chapter in every US region by 2010 now that interest continues to build in Texas.

Working with Khafilat Adesokan-Isaac , National Headquarters has seen an increase membership inquiries and activities from prospective members in the Houston metro area in several months.

Dr. Althia F. Ali, GGChi's President and Executive Director, said, "Houston has caught our attention with the level of sustained interest among the prospective members in the area. Before we hold a Gold Presentation (informational meeting), we like to have at least 15 membership inquiries. We have reached that number, and we are making plans to travel to Houston in the next few weeks to introduce our sorority and to meet this group of women. It's always exciting when we get closer to establishing a new chapter, and we work hard to ensure that we have a group of committed women who understand what it means not only to be a Gamma but to build a chapter from the ground up. It's not for everyone, and everyone is not up to the task. That's why we take our time and don't rush into inducting members."

Under Khafilat's guidance, the Houston has already begun to get organized. The purpose of the meetings is for the prospective members to get to meet each other. While National Headquarters supports these activities in principle, they are not GGChi activities.

After the July Meet & Greet at Sister Khafilat's home, Khafilat said:"There has been overwhelming interest in the sorority and one sister said to me it can't happen fast enough. Al-humdullilah I have rallied a small group of sisters who assist me in getting the word out."

Prospective members who reside in a 20-mile radius of Houston are eligible for this chapter. Click here to be included in the distribution listing.
