from the chapter's community service
activity at the Greensboro Urban MinistryThe Gamma Chapter has been hard at work trying to promote a positive image of Muslim women and Islam in general. Ramadan is known as many things to us. Aside from being the holy month for Muslims, it is also the season for giving.
The Gamma Chapter of Gamma Gamma Chi, along with friends and family, participated in giving back to the community by volunteering at the Greensboro Urban Ministry on Sunday, September 14. Those who assisted were Soror Robyn Abdusamad, Soror Joy'el Dickerson and Joncie Williams, cousin of Soror Robyn. The trio served meals to those who were less fortunate in the community - something which is a direct reflection of Islam and its commitment to the needy.
This was an uplifting experience for me. So often we complain about things. Yet we do not realize that there are people in worse situations than we are. We have to be mindful to count our blessings and thank Allah. We made such a positive impression while volunteering that the coordinator and other staff members asked our group to return. The Gamma Chapter served meals to over 380 people in the Greensboro community in three hours. Talk about some BUSY BEES!
In addition to our work with the Greensboro Urban Ministries, the Gamma Chapter went down east to share baked goodies with the Eastern North Carolina Community. Members of Gamma Chapter hosted a bake sale on Sunday, September 21, in front of Walmart in Greenville, NC. Sorors Kim Harper and Robyn Abdusamad participated along with Gamma hopeful, although she has about 5 years to go, D'lorah Pierce.
Sorors sold chocolate chip cookies, homemade trail mix and other items. In addition to the funds raised from the baked goods, community members donated money as well. The Chapter raised over $200 in three hours. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the American Diabetes Association. Buzz Buzz Baby!
