Six new members inducted

Alpha and Beta Chapters each gained a new member, and a new chapter of Gamma Gamma Chi Sorority, Inc. was established during April.

The newest chapter is named the Gamma Chapter of the sorority that was founded little over two years ago. This brings the total number of chapters to four and the total number of inducted members to 25. The induction of the six newest members culminated a probationary process that began several weeks earlier.

According to Imani Abdul-Haqq, GGChi co-founder and Vice President and Assistant Director, the probationary period is an "educational process that enables prospective members to learn more about the sorority, their prospective sorors, and also about themselves.   Activities are designed to give the prospective members the opportunity to learn the history, operational processes, and support programs of the Sorority.   Those who participate in the probationary process are asked not merely to memorize facts, but to consider thoughtfully the relevance of those facts to the sorority and to their own situations in this life and in the hereafter."   Abdul-Haqq says that, while the overriding purpose of the probationary period is to prepare women for sisterhood in the sorority, there are also important objectives that coincide with the sorority's focus on higher education, including success in academic endeavors, development of leadership skills and social responsibility, and service to the community.

Newest members make welcome gifts to GGChi

conference

During GammaFest, as part of their probationary period activities, new sorors developed and presented Sisterhood Perfected, an approach to helping others understand the twofold sisterhood of GGChi.

The presentation includes a powerpoint discussion of individual perfection, sisterhood in the ummah (community), sisterhood in the individual, and sisterhood in the sorority. The package also includes a brochure that can be distributed to prospective members and others interested in the sorority.

They also developed a puppet show that discusses Islam. It was designed to help young Muslim and non-Muslim children understand what Islam is really about, and it is designed to help the sorority work within our communities to explain what our sorority and its mission involves.

Anyone interested in having our puppet show presented at their school or other organization can contact us.

Muslim Monthly Wisdom

Those who rest not their hope on their meeting with Us, but are pleased and satisfied with the life of the present, and those who heed not Our Signs,

Their abode is the Fire, because of the (evil) they earned.

Those who believe, and work righteousness, their Lord will guide them because of their faith: beneath them will flow rivers in gardens of bliss.

(This will be) their cry therein: "Glory to Thee, O Allah." And "Peace" will be their greeting therein! and the close of their cry will be: "Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds!"
