Gamma Chapter Holds Community Event At Local Coffee House

Gamma Chapter

Gamma Chapter Sorors (L-R)Tahira Subuda, Robyn Abdusamad, Imani Canty, and Kimberly Harper celebrate after holding a successful Open Mic Night

Gamma Chapter hosted its first Poetry Slam, an open mic poetry night at Java K's in Greensboro on Feburary 23. Several members of the Greensboro community attended and shared their poetry with patrons while also learning more about Gamma Gamma Chi Sorority, Inc. The Poetry Slam was initially planned to be an annual event, but plans changed as a result of this first time out. Soror Kimberly Harper said, "It was a successful event. As a result of the warm reception (we received), the Gamma Chapter plans on having a monthly poetry event at Java K's." For more pictures from the event, >>See the photo album.

Sorors thank Kay

Sorors present Javak's owners with a Gamma Suporter T-Shirt and plaque thanking them for their support. Shown above are (L-R) Robyn Abdusamad, Gamma Chapter President, Co-founder Imani Canty, and Tahira Subuda with Kay, one of the owners.

Beta Chapter Reaches out in Several Ways

Beta Chaptersorors at FUNraiser

Beta Chapter members hold one of their FUNraisers during the EID explosion at Color Me Mine Studio in Silver Spring, Maryland. The chapter frequently holds fundraising events at the studio. According to Kesha Abdul-Mateen, the FUNraisers give everyone a chance to create their own pottery designs, "while bringing together members of the sorority and the community in a fun setting. The kids even get in on the act." Above, sorors (L-R) Kesha Abdul-Mateen, Amina Copeland-Khokhar, Juina Carter, and Mischelle Moody gather after the FUNraiser. Not pictured are chapter members Sumaiyah Yates and Yasmin Marquis who were also present.

The Beta Chapter Annual Coat Drive combined business and pleasure during the December event as it was followed by the chapter's Secret Soror exchange.   The coat drive yielded two boxes of coats for a shelter in Baltimore. After the coat drive, members of the chapter exchanged their Secret Soror gifts, which Soror Kesha Abdul-Mateen said is "a Beta Eid tradition. It helps to foster sisterhood and builds on our Gamma Gear" (because many sorors give gifts with sorority emblems on them). Above, Soror Mischelle Moody opens a gift she receives from her secret soror.

Beta Gold Presentation

Beta Chapter members gather on February 13 at the West County Area Library for a Gold Presentation as they continue to build membership in the chapter. Above, members of Beta Chapter pause for the traditional post Gold Presentation photo with prospective member (center) and Dr. Althia F. Ali, President and Executive Director (far right).

Epsilon Chapter Delivers As Expected

Gamma babies

When they selected a name for their line, members of Epsilon Chapter chose the name "Great Expectations" because three of the five members were expecting babies. All three sorors have successfully delivered babies, and the sorority has two new legacies (female children of sorors) and one link (male children of sorors) to add to the Gamma Gamma Chi Sorority, Inc. family. The babies are the children of Sorors Marsha Komara-Donzo, Coniqua Abdul-Malik, and Hajah Komara.

Mischelle Moody is new Vice President for Beta Chapter

Mischelle Moody

Soror Mischelle Moody was recently unanimously elected as Vice President of Beta Chapter. Monthly Muslim Wisdom

"Those (i.e., believers) unto whom the people (hypocrites) said, `Verily, the people (pagans) have gathered against you (a great army), therefore, fear them.' But it (only) increased them in Faith, and they said: `Allah (Alone) is Sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs (for us)'. So they returned with grace and bounty from Allah. No harm touched them; and they followed the good Pleasure of Allah. And Allah is the Owner of great bounty". (3:173,174)
