Delta chapter

Delta Chapter established in Chicago

Seven women who reside in the Chicago metro area were inducted into the newly formed Delta Chapter of Gamma Gamma Sorority, Inc. on May 26, 2007. This is the fifth chapter for the sorority . The induction of the seven newest members brings the total of inducted members to 32.

In reflecting on this newest addition, Dr. Althia F. Collins, President and Executive Director, said, "We are very pleased with the addition of these newest members. The Delta Chapter set the bar very high in all that they did to learn about our sorority prior to and during their probationary period. We are, indeed, very happy to include them among our sorors."

Members of the Delta Chapter pictured above are (right to left): Jacqueline Olugbile-Muhammad; Dionne Muhammad, JD; Avis Muhammad; Amy Muhammad; Luevinus Muhammad; Sherice Muhammad; and Kelly Muhammad.

Other chapters are in Alexandria, Virginia (the National Grand Chapter); the Atlanta, Georgia metro area (Alpha Chapter); the Washington, DC metro area (Beta Chapter); and Greensboro, NC (Gamma Chapter).

Beta Chapter held a Gold Presentation on May 13, 2007, as they continue to work to build membership in the Washington, DC metro chapter. Pictured above from right to left: Wakilah Majied, Juina Carter, Najaah Lee, and Amina Copeland-Khokhar. In addition to these four, three other prospective members who attended earlier Gold Presentations have given their intentions to pursue membership during the coming probationary period which is scheduled to begin in July.

The Gold Presentation has three purposes:
1-To introduce the sorority to prospective members
2-To answer questions that prospective members have about the sorority and the intake process
3-To socialize and get to know each other better before a mutual decision is made about membership

Attendance at the Gold Presentation is mandatory for consideration of membership.   It does not commit either the prospective member or the sorority for membership.

Important dates for the probationary period were released by Beta Chapter President, Sumaiyah Yates:

June 18: Application status E-mail sent

GGChi becomes supporting organization for Sister Study

Gamma Gamma Chi Sorority, Inc. is now a supporting organization for the Sister Study, a national research study to learn how the environment and genes affect the chances of getting breast cancer.   The study is enrolling women who have never had breast cancer, aged 35-74 but whose sister had breast cancer. According to Sara Williams of the Sister Study, "It is important for women from different ethnic groups and backgrounds to participate in the Sister Study so the results of the study will benefit everyone. The women needed most at this time are blue collar workers, African American women, Latinas, Native Americans, Asians and Pacific Islanders and all women over 65.  If you are eligible, please call the Sister Study right now.   If you are not eligible, please tell at least one woman you know is eligible to enroll now!"

President and Executive Director Dr. Althia F. Collins said, "We are pleased to support the work of the Sister Study. Of our six pillars, physical and mental health is among the most important pillars as we reach out to our communities. We encourage women in the targeted groups, in particular, to call the Sister Study. The life saved may be very close to home."
