GGChi thanks Soror Kimberly Harper for her service on the Board of Directors
"Kim is a wonderful soror and a true Gamma," GGChi President and Executive Director Dr. Althia F. Ali said. "Truly, Kim has put her imprint on Gamma when we needed help most."
Gamma Gamma Chi Sorority, Inc. expresses profound thanks to Soror Kimberly Harper for her unflagging efforts as a member of the Board of Directors in the first three years of the sorority's existence.
Soror Kimberly became involved with the sorority shortly after its founding. She served her first two-year term and went on to accept a second term in order to complete some unfinished business that she wanted to see through to completion. She ended her second term in July, midway through the appointed term.
As a part of her early contribution to the sorority, Soror Kimberly and her line sister Soror Christine Ortiz co-wrote the melody to the sorority song. The co-founders had already written the lyrics. Each time a soror sings the sorority song, the efforts of Soror Kimberly will be celebrated.
Other accomplishments that Soror Kimberly made to the sorority are refinement of national policies, participation in the selection process of prospective members to be invited to the membership process for all chapters to date, mentoring of talibas ("little sisters"), and actively working to establish Alpha, Beta, and Gamma Chapters by participating in their probationary processes.
In a letter to the sorority members announcing the news of Soror Kimberly's departure from the Board of Directors, Dr. Ali said :
"As you may know, Soror Kimberly Harper has been heavily involved with her doctoral studies for the past year. It's been a lot for her to balance the demands of those studies and the needs of the sorority as a board member. She is at a time where it is necessary for her to step aside (for a while). She will continue to be in my duahs as she takes the next steps toward completing her degree requirements, and I know she'll continue to make us proud of her accomplishments.I know that you join me in regretting the loss of Kim on the board, yet wishing all the best to her as she dedicates more time to complete her doctorate, insha'Allah. . . and we look forward to the time when she can return to Gamma service as Dr. Kimberly Harper (insha'Allah)."
For her part, Soror Kimberly said, ". . .It has truly been a blessing to be part of such a historic moment in Gamma, and I hope that one day I can return to a position on the Board insha'Allah." Soror Kimberly continues to serve as a member of the Gamma Chapter, and she is on the 2008 and 2009 GammaFest committees.
From everyone at GGChi, we send Soror Kimberly a high G-Chiiiii!
