Zeta Chapter Probationary Period Set to Begin in May

Gamma Gamma Chi Sorority, Inc. is about to add a sixth chapter shortly. President and Executive Director Dr. Althia F. Ali announced the approach of the Probationary Period for what will become the Zeta Chapter, to be located in the Indianapolis metro area.

According to Dr. Ali, "We have a strong group of prospective members in Indianapolis that we are eager to welcome to our sorority. Now that winter is nearly behind us, we are eager and ready to go to Indianapolis in order to conduct the Probationary Process for the Lilies (prospective members who have received invitations to continue in the quest for membership). We are pleased that some of the Delta Chapter sorors plan to be involved, and we're looking forward to some exciting, fun, and sisterly days ahead. The exact dates are being determined, but we expect to begin around May 3, if that fits everyone's schedules."

The Probationary Process is the active period that engages prospective members of the Sorority in work that relates directly to all that the Sorority represents. The time span varies from chapter to chapter, but it must begin on a Friday with Jumuah and last no longer than 21 days, ending on an odd-numbered night. During the Probationary Process, prospective members are known as Gamma Lilies.

The Probationary Process consists of a series of challenges that engage prospective sorors in intellectual exercises and shared experiences designed to: cultivate bonds of friendship and sisterhood at a higher level, increase the sister's knowledge of the Sorority and as a member of the ummah, engage the sister in community service as a representative of the Sorority, and provide the opportunity for existing members to observe the sister's method of working through challenges alone and with others. Special consideration is given to providing opportunities to engage in Islamic activities as a group such as salats, attending Jumuah, and a community activity. All activities are designed to fulfill the purpose of providing women with loving memories and meaningful, lifelong experiences that they carry for many years afterwards.
